The Online Teaching Recertification Seminar will build upon skills developed within the 6-week Online Teaching Certification Seminar. This professional development opportunity is asynchronous and will be facilitated by instructional designers from Missouri Online.
Upcoming sessions
Registration for a session will close after the first day of the session.
Who can participate?
The Online Teaching Recertification Seminar is intended for faculty who have already been certified, and have the responsibility to teach online for the University of Missouri System. Instructors must have completed an online certification through an approved avenue to be considered for this workshop. Certification is for 5 years from the date received and recertification is required before the current certification lapses.
Are there prerequisites?
Yes. Instructors should already have been certified for online teaching through one of the approved avenues as directed by the UM System. To see if you qualify, please complete the online teaching certification reflective self-assessment.
(We also suggest instructors be familiar with Canvas and other learning technologies before registering. Please see our Trainings & Events page for more information.)
Am I already certified?
Please visit the self-check dashboard to view your Online Teaching Certificate status.
This self-check reflects the certification status of instructors who have taught online. If you have questions about your certification status, please contact your chair.

Alternative Teaching Recertification Pathway
Our new alternative pathway model utilizes Missouri Onlineās Sprint Ahead program. The centerpiece of this alternative pathway is the Teaching Essentials sprint, which is designed to empower faculty to enhance or optimize their courses by integrating materials from both the Quality Course Review (QCR) and the latest trends in higher education identified by the Online Learning Consortium and EDUCAUSE.
Note: This alternative pathway is currently being piloted. If you're interested in piloting the program to recertify, please contact us at teachingonline@umsystem.edu.
Key features of the alternative pathway:
- Teaching essentials sprint: Integrating QCR principles with cutting-edge trends in higher education.
- Customization: Faculty members have the flexibility to choose two additional sprints from a catalog of over 20 sprints in design, assignment, community, and inclusion.
- Completion time: Both the existing cohort model and the alternative pathway are designed with your time in mind, with an approximate completion time of 9 hours.
