FLEXIBLE ONLINE TEACHING RECERTIFICATION

The flexible pathway model utilizes Missouri Online’s Sprint mini-course program. The centerpiece of this pathway is the Teaching Essentials sprint, designed to empower faculty to enhance or optimize their courses by integrating materials from both the Quality Course Review (QCR) and the latest trends in higher education identified by the Online Learning Consortium and EDUCAUSE.

Registration remains open, allowing instructors to self-enroll and begin at a time most convenient for you.

What’s the schedule and format for the flexible option (FOTR)?

  • Fully online, in Canvas
  • Teaching Essentials sprint: Integrating QCR principles with cutting-edge trends in higher education
  • Customization: Instructors have the flexibility to choose two additional sprints from a catalog of nearly 20 sprints in design, assessment, community, and inclusion.
  • Completion time: The flexible pathway is designed with your time in mind, with an approximate completion time of 9 hours working at your own pace.

Who can participate?

Both the Online Teaching Recertification Seminar and Flexible Online Teaching Recertification options are intended for faculty who have already been certified and are responsible for teaching online for the UM System. Instructors must have completed an online certification through an approved avenue to be considered for this workshop. Certification is 5 years from the date received, and recertification is required before the current certification lapses.

Are there prerequisites?

Yes. Instructors should already have been certified for online teaching through one of the approved avenues as directed by the UM System. To see if you qualify, please complete the online teaching certification reflective self-assessment.

(We also suggest instructors be familiar with Canvas and other learning technologies before registering. Please see our Training & Events page for more information.)

Am I already certified?

Please visit the self-check dashboard to view your Online Teaching Certificate status.

This self-check reflects the certification status of instructors who have taught online. If you have questions about your certification status, please contact your department chair.
