Honorlock Will Replace SmarterProctoring in May
A systemwide faculty committee reviewed SmarterProctoring and other proctoring solutions and selected Honorlock as our new proctoring solution. Honorlock protects exam integrity with a combination of live proctors and artificial intelligence (AI) tools. They offer 24/7 support to test takers and instructors.
SmarterProctoring will be available through the end of the Spring semester. Honorlock will be available in early May to prepare for Summer 2024 courses. Watch for information about training and documentation.

How to use AI for Better Image Accessibility
Wondering how to make your course content accessible to all students? Read our new blog post with examples of how to use generative AI tools to create alternative text and text descriptions for images. Recent advances in AI and large language models such as ChatGPT, Bard and Copilot allow you to upload an image and, with the appropriate prompt, generate a description that can be used as alternative text.
Authentic Pedagogy in the Age of AI (Sprint 2.C)
Our Sprint mini-course on Authentic Pedagogy in the Age of AI has been updated to include strategies for using AI to design learning experiences that go beyond traditional lecture and test methods. Learn to craft meaningful assignments that resonate with real-world scenarios and summon students to step beyond mere reliance on generative AI tools.
Enroll in the Sprint at any time to check out the content in Canvas. If you would like to earn a badge or certificate of completion, you’ll connect with an instructional designer to develop an authentic assessment. As a reminder, we offer 18 self-paced courses in our Sprint catalog.
Online Teaching Seminars
Registration is open for our certification and recertification seminar sessions starting April 8. The Online Teaching Certification Seminar is Missouri Online’s primary faculty development program that has certified nearly 2,500 instructors. It supports the University of Missouri System (UM System) requirement that instructors teaching online courses be certified before teaching online, and our Online Teaching Recertification Seminar supports the requirement of recertification every five years.
We are also piloting a recertification alternative pathway. The program utilizes Missouri Online’s Sprint self-paced mini-courses. If you're interested in piloting the program to recertify, please contact us at teachingonline@umsystem.edu. Join us to learn how to deliver quality online learning experiences and to share ideas and experiences with other instructors teaching online.
Call for Proposals: Teaching Showcase Series
As we plan future webinars and content to deliver this year, we invite UM System instructors to contribute as presenters and authors to our website’s blogs and articles. This is a unique opportunity for instructors teaching in any mode to share insights, experiences and practices related to digital or online education with the university community. See our new Call for Proposals: Digital Teaching Showcase Series, including the submission form. Submit a proposal for a blog or article by June 1.
