Hybrid Webinar Sessions
We’re offering the following series of hybrid webinars via Zoom and some campus locations.
FERPA Principles for Digital Teaching & Learning (Sept. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
This hybrid session for University of Missouri System faculty and staff explores how the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal law designed to protect the privacy of student education records, applies in digital teaching and learning environments. Brenda Selman will provide an overview of FERPA principles, and registrars from other campuses will be available via Zoom to answer campus-specific questions. Missouri Online instructional designers and technologists will lead an interactive activity for attendees to practice identifying common FERPA violations in various digital tools (Outlook, Canvas, Zoom, etc.). Presenters will explain why each is a violation and show other methods and tools that align with best practices. Location: MU Teaching for Learning Center (25 Ellis Library, Columbia, MO) and via Zoom (register for Zoom link).
Online Teaching Learning Labs (Sept. 13, Sept. 27, Oct. 11 1 to 2 p.m.)
Instructors are invited to participate in Online Teaching Learning Labs. These sessions, facilitated by Missouri Online instructional designers, will be held in multiple modalities via Zoom and on the Mizzou, UMKC and UMSL campuses. All sessions will be hybrid (in-person/online) with hands-on help available. To assist with planning, please complete the registration survey, particularly if you plan to attend in-person sessions. The survey includes dates, times, locations and a Zoom link for all sessions. For any questions, please contact Missouri Online at teachingonline@umsystem.edu.
USDE Certification Procedure Regulations In Effect
The U.S. Department of Education’s certification procedures regulation went into effect on July 1, 2024, affecting institutions serving students in programs leading to a license or certification like UM System universities. To satisfy the new certification procedures regulation, institutions must certify that any program that prepares students for licensure (or state certification) meets educational requirements where the institution is located, and where distance education students are located at the time of initial enrollment. 34 CFR § 668.14(b)(32)(ii) limits an institution’s ability to enroll students using Title IV to only those states/territories where the institution knows that the program meets educational requirements for licensure or certification. The Certification Procedures Fact Sheet offers information regarding the final regulations and supporting documentation to aid in compliance. For questions, contact Brandie Elliott-Woodall at elliottba@umsystem.edu.
